For three consecutive years, the studio was invited — in partnership with Tom Brown Art + Design — to design the SPD Publication Design Annual. We built flexible systems to showcase hundreds of winning entries while reserving the covers and title pages for genuine creative expression. The 43rd Annual earned a Silver Cube from the Art Directors Club for best cover.

The Nature Conservancy
The world's largest conservation organization — publishes for one of the most passionate and engaged readerships in print: people who don't just read about the natural world, they protect it. In partnership with Tom Brown Art + Design, we served as consulting creative directors for three years, redesigning their flagship publication twice — each iteration building a minimal visual framework that stepped back entirely and let the photography lead. Restraint was the brief. The landscapes did the rest.

For a finance publication serving one of the most data-literate readerships in media, conventional charts weren’t enough. As a recurring contributor, I translated complex financial data into graphics and visualizations that moved beyond the defaults of pie and bar charts — finding forms that were analytically rigorous and visually considered.

Self Promotion/Portfolio
In 2005, most design portfolios were static, regimented, and indistinguishable from one another — much as they are today. Built in Flash with a developer who engineered a custom content management system beneath it, the site allowed imagery to be updated without touching code — a genuinely ahead-of-its-time solution for a technology that offered no such flexibility out of the box. The design itself pushed against the conventions of the moment: fluid, unexpected, and built around the work rather than around a template.
